Acrylic Keychains

In search of the ideal personalised present for your father, your graduate, or anybody else in your life? Why not design a unique keychain? Everyone can use it, and you can customise it totally by combining whatever colours and words you desire. I recently explained how to make personalised keychains with permanent vinyl and your Cricut machine. Today, I’d want to demonstrate an alternative using the same acrylic keychain kit, some paint, and your own hand calligraphy. Let’s look at it!

You’ll Require:

  • Kit for Acrylic Keychains (includes 30 each of blanks, chain, jump rings, tassels, and key rings)

acrylic paint for multiple surfaces in the colour of your choice (s)

  • Paintbrush
  • Permanent marker OR a fine-tipped paintbrush (I used gold and black).
  • Pliers
  • Glitterific FolkArt is optional.

Creating your own personalised acrylic keychains.

Step 1: On one side of the acrylic blank, paint a colour stripe.

Make care to first take off the clear protective film from the blank’s both sides. Then, using your preferred acrylic or multi-surface paint, add a paint stripe in any colour you desire with a paintbrush. Instead, try painting your keychain with a thick layer of Glitterific paint to make it shine! Before proceeding to the following stage, allow the paint to completely dry.

Step 2: Include your text or design.

Use a fine tip paint pen or a permanent marker to write your word or message on the keychain’s reverse side. You are free to adorn your work with any decorations you choose, such as the gold dots I drew around the outside of the sample below.

With only a monogram or by lettering a name or phrase, you may keep things very simple. Check out my post on beginner faux calligraphy if you’re new to hand lettering. It’s simpler than you would imagine!

Simply write your word, then go back and thicken any downstrokes (areas where your pen moved downward while writing). Your pen glides downward on the left side of each “d” and the left side of the stem, for instance, in the word “dad.” Downstrokes are also used on the “aleft “‘s side and stem. Create the word “dad” in a lovely brush script font by adding a second line to each of those locations and colouring the area in between.

Add the chain, ring, and tassel in step three.

To attach the chain and keyring, thread an open jump ring through the blank’s hole. To close the jump ring, use pliers. If you want to add a tassel, you can slide it onto the keychain itself or attach it to the top or bottom jump rings.

These keychains can be customised in a plethora of ways. The fact that I can use the unique names that my children have for their grandparents instead of the more common ones makes me very happy.

You can use an acrylic spray sealer or paint a layer of Mod Podge over your lettering to further protect your finished keychain. By doing this, the paint will be protected from typical wear and tear.

Everyone uses keys, so these cute keychains are wonderful presents, plus they’re a lot of fun to make. How do you feel?

Which one do you prefer? Here are some of the ones made with the Cricut as well as these lettered ones. Whatever method you use to manufacture these, they’ll be a treasured gift!

A common form of polymer used to create keychains, casings for eyewear, and other little objects is acrylic.
